ZINOTAR relished the step up to 1800m at the Sunshine Coast to earn a well-deserved breakthrough win.
Having placed at five of his previous seven starts, the 4YO had been building towards a first victory and he duly justified favouritism in Sunday’s Maiden Plate.
With Ange Jones in the saddle for the first time, the son of Tarzino initially settled in midfield before taking up a more prominent position nearing the home turn.
The contest turned into a two-horse duel down the home straight, and ZINOTAR eventually got the upper hand to collect a cheque for $16,800.
“It was good to see him crack that Maiden today, because he’s been deserving of it,” said Jones.
“It was a bit messy early, we found our spot but then they really slackened the pace up front. The one I ended up following didn’t take me anywhere, so we had to roll around its outside. We managed to get into the slot in front of that horse which allowed us to flow into the race when we needed to.
“He toughed it out in the finish so it was a good win and hopefully it should give him plenty of confidence moving forward.”
Many congratulations to his owner, Angelis Vasili.
