WEONA SMARTONE LIVES UP TO HIS NAME

WEONA SMARTONE enhanced an already stellar record with a ninth win from 11 career starts at Doomben.

The son of Shampexpress had been off the scene since January, but made light of the nine-month absence from the races to cling onto victory in the Quality Handicap (1100m).

WEONA SMARTONE took his prizemoney through the $250,000 barrier thanks to his first-up win under Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

Wilson-Taylor took WEONA SMARTONE straight to the front from barrier two, and despite being challenged by a whole host of rivals near the line, the 6YO showed plenty of heart and strength to collect a cheque for $57,500.

It was a fifth win from six first-up starts for the $160,000 purchase, many congratulations to WEONA SMARTONE’s owners: Mr R S Jones, Mrs D M Jones, Mr D R Ind, Mr D M Kane and Mr C J G McKid.
