LAST CHANCE SALOON extended his terrific race record with a third career victory at Eagle Farm on Australia Day.
The 4YO had been a tragedy beaten at his last start, and duly made amends under Michael Rodd who was in the saddle for the first time.
After jumping cleanly, Rodd was happy to settled just off the speed in the opening exchanges of the Class 2 Handicap (1400m).
After straightening it appeared that LAST CHANCE SALOON might be squeezed for room yet again, but when the gap appeared the son of Maurice charged through it to score by a comfortable margin.
Victory took his record to three wins and four seconds from his eight career starts, from which he has now amassed close to $75,000.
“What a wonderful result,” said David.
“He’s got an amazing record, not many horses can do what he has done. We’ve spent time trying to get him to settle, he’s certainly heading in the right direction and he’s probably looking for a mile now.
“He lost a bit of focus late in the race, Michael said he noticed the semaphore board which took his mind off the task at hand. So with that in mind, it was a really good win and he’s been a great horse for us thus far. He’s only four, so there’s plenty of racing ahead for him and the team have done a great job with him whilst I’ve been away in New Zealand.”
Many congratulations to his owners: Mr M H White, Mrs J M White, Mr O H Goddard, Mr R Henzell, Mr D T Masters, Mr G Alvaro, Mr M S Walton, Mr P P Saad, Mr P Leontaris and Mr J M Fordham.
