SLIPPIN’ JIMMY produced some New Year's Eve fireworks with a 4.5 length maiden win on his home track.
The 3YO was all the rage in the betting markets and put on a display befitting his short price in the C&G Maiden Handicap.
Having kicked off his career with two impressive efforts over 1000m, the son of Pariah stepped up to 1200m and relished the extra distance at start three.
With apprentice Jasper Franklin taking two kilos off his back, SLIPPIN’ JIMMY led throughout and never gave his owners a moment of concern with a professional performance which earned his connections a cheque for $16,800.
“It was wonderful to see him win so dominantly and reward the faith we’ve had in him,” said David.
“It was a terrific effort, and he was really strong through the line. He did get a bit hot and bothered before the race which we thought might’ve taken the edge off him a bit, but that obviously wasn’t the case.
“We think he’s got a bright future, he’s got a great action and a great attitude. His heart rate was pretty high after the race and he’s probably come to the end of the prep mentally, so we’re going to give him a month off now.
“He can go and enjoy himself in the paddock, then we’ll bring him back into work and he’ll head back to the races once the weather has cooled down a little, which will suit him.”
Many congratulations to his owners: Mr M W Cook, Mr K L Hill, Albury’s Own, Mrs J Dahl, Ms S M Reguson, Mr DVD Racing, Mr S N Travers, Mr M Speers, Mr S Dodds and Mr T J Brown.
