A bold front-running ride by apprentice Tahlia Fenlon saw MY SNOW QUEEN move past $300,000 in earnings and sealed a city double for the stable on Saturday.
The mare had finished second at each of her three starts prior to Saturday’s Benchmark 85 Handicap (1200m), but deservedly broke through for her sixth career win courtesy of a dashing display at Doomben.
It marked a first Saturday city success for Fenlon, who was able to control the pace of the race from the outset.
MY SNOW QUEEN sustained a commanding gallop throughout, and despite being challenged late in the piece she was strong to the line to follow stablemate MINTAKA LAD into the winner’s enclosure.
“This girl has been amazing,” said David of the daughter of Star Turn.
“We had no luck last prep, but we’re having a great time this campaign. She’s got a beautiful coat on her and she recovered really well, so moving forward there’s a Class 6 Plate over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm coming up, which looks a good option for her.
“She’s a mare in form and even though she’s had a few runs this prep, by the looks of her she’s definitely not done with yet because it was probably a career-best performance on Saturday.”
Many congratulations to her owners: Mrs M Branthwaite, Mr C Branthwaite, Mr T G Butt, Mrs A M Butt, Miss Z Wade, Dr S McClintock, Mr G J Brown, Mr G Mcquillan, Mr S Whitton, Mr D J Donohue, Mr D J Donohue and Mr J Wade.
