PICKET FENCE FOR THE FACE

Hat-trick hero THE FACE scored his most impressive victory yet with another dashing display at Doomben on Saturday.

After back-to-back wins at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast, THE FACE promptly ran up his third straight metro victory in some style in the Class 6 Plate.

David had been slightly concerned that the step up to 1350m might test THE FACE’s stamina, but the son of Rubick put any such doubts to bed with another bold performance under Ben Thompson.

The pair jumped cleanly from barrier 12 and found the front, with the result never seriously in doubt from the moment THE FACE extended in the straight.

The three-length win took THE FACE’s career earnings past the $400,000 mark, with more than $140,000 collected from his four starts for Vandyke Racing.

“It’s amazing, his strapper is in tears which shows you how much he means to her,” said David.

“I was confident coming off the bend, because they were all off the bit behind him. I thought 1350 metres may have been a risk, but it was the only real option for him and fortune favoured the brave.

“He wanted to win and did it in great fashion. Ben didn’t really give him much of a rest, he just kept him in a really nice rhythm and it was exciting to watch. He’s a stunning looking horse, and he knows it too. He’s full of character, he runs the show at home!”

Congratulations to his owners: Mr S W Smith, Mr G J Fulton, Ms V M Smith, Mr M J Hopkins, Mr J McCaig, Mr M Cleaver and Mr R H Williams.
