PHILIA FLIES TO BACK TO BACK WINS

Blueblood filly PHILIA enhanced her race record and pedigree page in some style with a second straight metropolitan win at Eagle Farm.

The half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Duais announced her Queensland Oaks credentials with an electric victory in Saturday’s QTIS 3YO Handicap.

Having broken her maiden over 1350m at her previous start at Doomben, the daughter of All Too Hard relished the step up to the Eagle Farm mile under in-form Cejay Graham.

Despite a tardy start, PHILIA managed to muster into a prominent position at the mid-stage of the race, and after grabbing the lead at the 400-metre mark she promptly streaked clear to score by two lengths.

“It wasn’t all smooth sailing today, because she had a bit of a meltdown when she arrived on course,” revealed David.

“Fortunately we were able to get her back to a good place, thanks to the efforts of my staff and the racetrack staff. She paraded well but I was worried when she missed the start and she got into a bit of a tug of war, so I did wonder how much would be left in the tank.

“But when she hit the lead at the top of the straight, she careered away from them. She’s bred to win an Oaks, and everything she did today suggests she’s on the right path.”

Victory took her career earnings to $83,300, congratulations to the Harris family and Irwin Racing.
