NEVER GIVE UP LIVES UP TO HIS NAME

A determined performance by the aptly-named NEVER GIVE UP saw the 4YO score his second career win at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.

Given a gun ride off the speed by Jimmy Orman, who took the reins for the first time, NEVER GIVE UP powered home over top of the field right on the line to claim the $15,600 winner’s cheque.

The application of blinkers helped as NEVER GIVE UP settled into a lovely rhythm in the early part of the Class 1 Handicap (1400m), before laying down a persistent challenge in the home straight to score by a long neck.

“It was a great win,” said Orman.

“We stepped away a bit slowly from an awkward gate, but we were still able to find a decent enough position in the second half of the field.

“He travelled strongly and kept tracking up, and luckily he managed to get there just when it mattered. So it was a good, fighting win and there’s no reason why he can’t go up to the mile next time as long as he’s ridden conservatively.”

Many congratulations to the team at Reed Racing and Double R Thoroughbreds.
