MINTAKA LAD extended his excellent race record when he sealed a home track double for the stable on Sunday.
The 4YO was first up from a long spell in the Class 2 Handicap (1200m), and proved he had lost none of his zest and speed as he ran his rivals ragged.
Having got to the front from barrier eight, MINTAKA LAD settled into a perfect rhythm under Justin Huxtable.
After being given a shake of the reins in the home straight, MINTAKA LAD let down impressively and whilst he showed some signs of tiredness late in the piece, a third career victory was never in serious doubt.
“I liked the way he travelled very comfortably with the blinkers off,” said David.
“He could just as easily have sat second or third in the run, so it’s good that he has that string to his bow and he won in good time.”
Huxtable was delighted to have started his association with the son of Deep Field on a winning note, saying: “It was good to find the lead fairly comfortably, and he came back underneath me nicely.
“He didn’t want to overdo it and I was able to cuddle him as long as possible, and he’s going to take a tremendous amount of improvement from today’s race.”
Many congratulations to his owner-breeder, Vern Trillo.
