LAST CHANCE SALOON took an immediate liking to the new turf track at the Gold Coast when he scored a tough win on Saturday.
The 4YO gelding has been a model of consistency this year, with his latest success taking his record to two wins and three seconds from his last five starts.
Having resumed with a very narrow defeat over 1100m at Ipswich, LAST CHANCE SALOON stepped up to 1200m in the Class 2 Handicap.
Despite being caught wide from the tricky draw, jockey Tiff Brooker kept LAST CHANCE SALOON in a nice rhythm and when the pair accelerated in the home straight, there was no denying him a second career win.
“It was fantastic to see Last Chance Saloon get a well-deserved win,” said David.
“He really looked the winner a long way out and I thought he had them covered, but he’s obviously still learning his craft.
“Tiff did a good job of pulling him out of the early jostling, and got him travelling nicely. She didn’t leave anything to chance by popping him to the outside rounding the turn. She knew she had plenty of horses underneath her, so she took her time before asking him to lengthen.
“She kept him nice and balanced and he responded very well. It was terrific to see him win, we’ll give him a couple of days to recover then work out a plan for him.”
Victory took his earnings close to $50,000 from just six starts, congratulations to his owners: Mr M H White, Mrs J M White, Mr O H Goddard, Mr R Henzell, Mr D T Masters, Mr G Alvaro, Mr M S Walton, Mr P P Saad, Mr P Leontaris and Mr J M Fordham.
