LADY LUCIFER IS A SPEED DEMON

LADY LUCIFER made light of a lengthy absence from the racetrack when she scored a strong Maiden win at the Sunshine Coast.

After opening her account with back-to-back second placings in the middle of last year, the mare went for an extended spell but returned in some style in Sunday’s Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Despite a slightly tardy start, LADY LUCIFER mustered good early speed to take up a prominent position under Jimmy Orman.

After giving LADY LUCIFER a shake of the reins rounding the turn, the daughter of Hellbent responded with an impressive turn of foot to justify favouritism and score by two lengths eased down.

“It was great to see her break her Maiden like that,” said David.

“She didn’t begin brilliantly so Jimmy had to dig her up to take up a position in the run. He’s been on her in her recent jumpouts and trials, so he knows the mare well now. I thought she was going to get beaten at one point, because the second favourite looked to be travelling better.

“But when they got into the business end of the race, she showed her class and ran out a dominant winner. Her post-race recovery was extremely good, so it was the perfect day out for her and we look forward to the rest of her preparation.”

The $55,000 purchase has now collected close to $30,000 from just three starts, congratulations to the On Track Racing team and all her owners: Mr J R Carey, Mrs M D Bates, Mr D J Bates, Mr B J Warnick, Mr F J Vernon, Bayles Girls Racing, Mr P R McGavin, Ms S M Manning, Lock & Bob Boys, Mr G A Snow, Mrs M J Keegan, GroLim Racing, Mr C D Enders, Mr W D Phillips, Mr W C Stone and Mr B R Heness.
