JUNGLE JET STRIKES GOLD ON THE GLITTER STRIP

The stable played a part on an historic occasion at the Gold Coast on Friday evening as JUNGLE JET won the opening race at the club’s first ever night meeting.

Following BECCA’s debut success at Gatton earlier in the afternoon, JUNGLE JET completed a perfect day at the office when he outlasted his rivals in the Class 1 Handicap (2200m).

The son of Tarzino has already more than recouped his $55,000 purchase price thanks to a tough staying performance under in-form jockey Ange Jones.

The pair went for home a long way out and JUNGLE JET kept finding under pressure to register his second career victory - albeit by a smaller winning margin than his 15-length demolition job at Ipswich two starts back.

A $10,000 bonus put the cherry on top of the cake for his delighted trainer, who quipped that he felt like he had won a Group race.

“It was the first race here under lights, we drew barrier one and we’ve finished first, so it was obviously meant to be,” said David.

“The message to Ange before the race was to make it a genuine staying test, because he doesn’t have much change-up speed. I told her to just make them run when we got the 800-metre mark I thought we might’ve overdone it, but he just outstayed them.

“Credit to Jimmy Orman who rode him last start, when he jumped off he said he should’ve just tried to make it a genuine staying test. So he gave us the ammunition to come here tonight and do just that.”

Jones also received a $5,000 jockey bonus after beginning her association with the 4YO on a winning note.

“He’s a big staying type,” she said.

“I thought I was gone on the corner, but David said if we could have them off the bit early we’d be in with a great chance, so I pulled the stick and he picked up really well for me. He only has a small turn of foot, but he was really brave and he didn’t want to pull up after the line, so he could definitely get over further.”

Congratulations to his big ownership group, who ce;lebrated in style after the win: Mr J Bebedellis, Mr W Goldthorp, Mrs K E Goldthorp OAM, Mr M A Green, Mrs A M Green, Mr A N Smith, Mrs V A Smith, Mr S J Morrison, Mr J C Quirk, Mr A Counsel, Mrs L A Chapman, Mr J D Davis, Mr Z Holt, Mr D Licastro, Mr M Macfarlane, Mr J R Makepeace, Mr G O'Neal, Mr D C Milles and Mr M J Taylor.
