ISLAND TIDE is a maiden no longer after she dominated her rivals with a display of sustained speed at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
The mare had been banging down the door in recent weeks, and she finally burst through for a richly deserved first victory in the Maiden Plate (1000m).
The 4YO was rated perfectly in front by Ryan Maloney, who registered his first win for the stable since returning to Queensland from Sydney.
“She was very impressive today,” said David.
“It’s a long straight here, but she got the job done in good style and it’s just great to see her win a race, because she’s deserved it.”
Maloney believes that if she can curb some of her enthusiasm and show some restraint, the daughter of All Too Hard could be a dangerous proposition.
“She was a bit aggressive, so she needs to learn to conserve her energy,” said Maloney.
“Once she learns to settle, you’ll definitely see a different dimension to her. But even though she did a few things wrong today, she was still far too good for them.”
Congratulations to her owners: Mr L J Watson, Mr S J Baker, Mr M J Hayden and Mr N M Newman.
