Home track hero WARRANT thrived over the Sunshine Coast mile to register his second career win on Melbourne Cup Day.
The 4YO became the stable’s third winner from our last 10 starters when he scored over his pet distance in the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600m).
WARRANT led all the way in the hands of apprentice jockey Rob Thorburn to take his career earnings to the brink of $50,000.
Impressively, the son of Russian Revolution now has two wins and a second from his three starts over the track and trip.
“The plan wasn’t necessarily to lead, but he broke really well from the gates and I didn’t want to fight him,” said Thorburn.
“He was travelling really comfortably in front, so I just allowed him to stride out. He came back under me really nicely and dropped the bit, which allowed him to have a kick at the top of the straight and he put the race to bed pretty quickly.
“It was a really comfortable win, even if I felt a bit embarrassed about dropping my stick!”
Many congratulations to Mr S L Dowling, Mrs L A England and Mr J England.
