ACAPULCO GIRL showed great bravery to score a very narrow maiden win at Ipswich on Easter Monday.
The filly went where angels fear to tread to get off the mark at career start number two in the Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Having kicked off her career with a debut second at Ipswich in January, the daughter of Contributer went for a short spell before returning to the track and trip.
ACAPULCO GIRL and her pilot Ryan Maloney looked all dressed up with nowhere to go in the home straight, but the pair squeezed through a tight gap and just held on for victory by a nose.
“They didn’t make it easy for her,” said Maloney.
“She copped a hammering twice and it took forever to get her momentum back, but she was still able to pick herself up eventually. She saw the horse coming on the outside and just managed to get her head down.
“So she should’ve won by a lot further, but she’s got a great future ahead of her. The manner of the win should bring her on and give her plenty of confidence.”
Her victory was the stable’s second success from our last three runners, following RANGER ENJAY’s maiden win at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
