THE FACE showed sharp improvement at his second start for the stable to break through for his first win since arriving in Queensland.
Having finished seventh on debut for the stable, THE FACE opened his account in the Class 3 Plate (1200m) thanks to a textbook front-running ride by Ben Thompson.
Thompson took the former Sydneysider straight to the front from barrier six, and despite a wall of horses laying down the challenge in the home straight, the pair just clung on for a well-deserved win.
“He was really good today,” said Thompson.
“He just enjoyed himself out there. He was nice and alert pre-race, and he jumped away cleanly. We found the front on his terms, and I didn’t have to push or pull until we got to the 200-metre mark.
“When I peeled him off the fence, he really responded. So it was a super win, and hopefully it’s the first of many for the adopted Queenslander.”
The son of Rubick now has more than $300,000 in prizemoney after bringing up his third career win, many congratulations to his owners: Mr S W Smith, Mr G J Fulton, Ms V M Smith, Mr M J Hopkins, Mr J McCaig, Mr M Cleaver and Mr R H Williams.
