Dream debut for bohemian lad

A devastating display on debut saw BOHEMIAN LAD get his racing career off to a dream start at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Off the back of an impressive trial at the start of the month, the 2YO went to the races with a pep in his step and promptly dispatched his rivals with ease in the QTIS Maiden Plate (1000m).

After breaking evenly, BOHEMIAN LAD settled in the middle of the field under Ryan Maloney. When he was peeled to the outside and asked for an effort in the home straight, the son of Better Than Ready responded in some style to pull clear of the chasing pack.

“He was very impressive, and he’s got a beautiful temperament to boot,” said Ryan.

“He switched off beautifully off a hot tempo, and he showed with that turn of foot that he’s got above average ability. I sat up at the 200-metre mark, because the race was already won by then.

“For a horse having his first start, he didn’t get overawed by the occasion at all so there was plenty to like about him today.”

David echoed those sentiments, saying: “It’s always pleasing to win a QTIS race with a horse on the up.

“He’s a horse with a future and I’m sure he’ll get over further ground in time, he was the first two-year-old runner of the season for the stable so it’s been a great day.”

The three-length win earned his connections a cheque for $27,300, and in the process BOHEMIAN LAD registered a first race victory for his dam Nahab and continued the success of Better Than Ready, who has sired the winners of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (Skirt The Law) and The Archer (Alpine Edge).

David is a huge admirer of Better Than Ready and we still have shares available in the full-brother to the precociously talented Chrysaor, a two-time winner who is being set for the BRC Sires Produce and the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over the carnival.
