KILNA sprouted wings to seal a home track stable double with a second straight win at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
After LADY LUCIFER had broken through earlier in the day, KILNA completed an excellent day at the office when he charged home from last place to justify favouritism.
A tardy start saw the son of Tarzino settle at the rear of the field in the early stages of the Benchmark 58 Handicap, which represented his first start over the mile.
Despite the tricky position he found himself in, apprentice jockey Jasper Franklin refused to panic and rode KILNA like the best horse in the race as the pair circled the field to win by three lengths.
“Jasper had a hard time keeping the horse in check, but he did a good job,” said David.
“He let down impressively and certainly showed them a clean pair of heels at the finish. The way he went past the others in the straight was the sign of a good horse. He’s still a bit immature which is why we’ve had to take it slowly with him, but we got the rewards today.
“We’ll look to take him away from his home track for his next start, probably at Eagle Farm in three weeks’ time, because we want to continue his education and progression. He still gets a bit wound up so he’s not the complete racehorse, but hopefully once he settles down we can get him into some better races in time.”
Many congratulations to his owners: Mr W A Veall, Pryde Racing, J A Morgan and Mr K Cleghorn.
