Blake Shinn secured his 1000th career win on Saturday on Arabian Gold for David Vandyke in the final race of Day 1 of The Championships, the $200,000, Group 3 TAB Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

The top weight of the race at 59kg was too good on her run to the post, with Shinn steering her strongly through the Heavy 9 track ahead of Missvon (Teofilo) for Guy Walter and Craig Newitt and race favourite Lady Cumquat (Duke of Marmalade (IRE)) for Roger James and Nash Rawiller.

The three-year-old found herself out wide coming into the straight, but took the lead at the 100m and charged home solidly.

Boasting three from three wins on a wet surface, the stunning looking grey was fancied by punters starting at $6.50 with TAB.com.au.

The time was 2.11.98 with the final 600m in 38.54 and the official margins 1 ¼ lengths by ½ lengths.

Trained David Vandyke assured that it was no easy task to get the horse where she is at today following a rough start to the year on the track.

“Michael and the team have just had their head down, bums up and working hard and we’ve reaped the rewards of that today it’s terrific,” said Vandyke.

Shinn however said that the trainer also deserves ample acknowledgement for Arabian Gold’s performance.

“She’s a great filly, full credit to David Vandyke, he never lost faith in her and Nick Moraitis just let Dave persevere to this race today instead of pulling up stumps. She had a giant task, 59 on a heavy track,” said Shinn.

From here trainer Vandyke hinted that the Dubawi filly could “possibly” head to the $1m Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) next week, but he has not ruled out the feature $4m, Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

Arabian Gold is a filly by Dubawi (IRE) out of the Vettori (IRE) mare Coablo and is owned by Nick Moraitis A M. This was the filly’s sixth win from 15 starts and she has earned stakes of $434,730.
